Mr & Mrs Craig
Keen walkers Mr and Mrs Craig from Westwood, East Kilbride, were keen to step up the look of their existing kitchen and modernise their home. They were discussing this with friends at their walking club when one of them strode forward and recommended our company, Mulberry Kitchen Design. Their friend had previously had a kitchen designed and fitted by us and they were delighted both with the finished kitchen and the service they had received.
When Mr and Mrs Craig contacted us about having a new kitchen, we met with them to discuss their needs and what they hoped to achieve. Although Mrs Craig wanted to add a splash of colour into her home, she was afraid that she would soon grow tired of her chosen colour scheme. So, she decided to play it safe instead and opted for a black and white colour scheme. She felt that this would stand the test of time and she could inject colour into the room by adding bright accessories.
The Craigs wanted us to complete the kitchen from start to finish, rather than subcontracting some of the work to other professionals. This meant we were responsible for every stage of the process, from the design stage right through to adding the finishing touches at the end of the project. We were more than happy to oblige.
The couple chose Porter White lacquered doors for their new kitchen, plus a sparkly glass back-splash and Egger worktops and upstands. The existing airing cupboard was removed and replaced with a new full-length cupboard to coordinate with the other new units. Mrs Craig enjoys cooking at the weekends, so her choice of appliances was important. She was worried that some double ovens have a larger grill and smaller oven, so she opted for one with an extra large oven at the bottom. She also chose an integrated fridge freezer and a 450mm dishwasher.
One of the major jobs that needed completing was the rewiring of the kitchen. This involved fitting an RCD consumer unit into the electrical cupboard. This is a legal requirement because any change in the electrics must be RCD protected. Although this is a job that costs a bit extra, it is a necessary one that could potentially save your life.
To complete the kitchen, we plastered all the walls and decorated using Farrow and Ball paint. We also fitted LED spotlights and under lights, a new radiator, a black slate ergo floor and new facings and skirting. At the end of the project, we cleared away all the rubbish and left their new kitchen spotlessly clean ready for them to begin using.
